My trip to Hawaii in picutres

oh Hawaii... it was just what the dr. ordered. Sadly, now that I've been back for aver a week, what little tan I got has faded, my belly is now a pouch after all the eating I did, and the stress that I got rid of has since returned as knots in my shoulders. Well, at least I have these pictures to remember my trip by!

The sun and coconut trees (and the humidity!) greeting me at HNL, my mom cutting a sweet papaya from our backyard

Lanikai, the beach of dreams

Dad's home cooking sukiyaki one night and tonkatsu another

nuevo Hawaiian sweets - the desserts and jelly drinks at La Palme D'or and YOgurt MAMA's "popping balls" (think the texture of salmon roe ikrua but filled with guava, lilikoi and lychee!)

Nordsrtom Ala Moana's Cafe Bistro's Hawaiian fare - kalua pig sandwhich, crunchy panko chicken salad, the not so local but delicious chocolate turtle and red velvet cake.

likikoi malasadas and coco-puffs from Liliha Bakery

Beautiful things - the view of Ala Moana from Stacy's condo, Chicken katsu on the beach, the first pink lotus at Aunty Lita's house

Beauty from the Car - Driving through Kaneohe Town, Driving towards a double rainbow, L&L Drive-In

Zippy's! - Loco Moco for breakfast and a ZipPak that I brought home to the OC for dinner

On the plane - Props to Continental for serving a hot meal for FREE! and mom's handmade musubi.

There's no place like home

I'm heading back to the aina! And not a moment to soon. With the stress of work beating on my thinning hairline, it's like god said GO...! A cheap fare coupled with a few days of relative slowness at work all came to me like a vision or a burning bush over the weekend. So now, I'm auidi 500 people for a few days of r&r and home cooking.

Who knew that Continential (soon to be Unitenential?) had Direct Tv?! But don't get too excited... It's $6!!

Back in St. Olaf...

Oh, Rose! Who doesn't love Betty White?! Although I didn't join the facebook bandwagon to get her the SNL hosting gig, I was totally for it! And boy did it deliver!!

Hilarious! For 88, she's incredible. Well, for any age, she's incredible. Love the Delicious Dish gals (anyone remember the Alec Baldwin "Schweddy Balls" sketch? I die! btw, in college a friend and I did a bad presentation as the characters... we got and A, but thinking back on it, I cringe...). Although I feel that bringing back all of the commedianes from past seasons diluted the show a bit and stole Betty's thunder, she still made it one of the best ones in a long time!

But was I the only one wondering where the Golden Girls sketch was? And why didn't they bring back Rue Maclanahan?

big Gleek

Yes, that's me. Always have been and always will be.

Braces: check
Glasses: check
Retainer: check
Video Games: check
Clarinet and the Marching Band: check and big fat double check!

So, its probably no surprise that I love Glee. Don't you? It's OCC, bananas ah-mazing! What really put it over the edge from good to great was the Madonna themed episode from a couple of weeks ago...

I died! Didn't you?

However, as much as I love the show, there are parts of it that I HATE. I should rephrase that... there are certain CHARACTERS that I just hate! and at the top of this list is Mr. Schuester!!! I hate how he treats Emma (who finally stood up for herself!) like dirt, hate how he getting it on with other choir directors and almost got it on with Kristen Chenowith, told Emma to "fix her problems and then he'd date her" (as a fellow victim of OCD, I don't think there's a "problem" there) and I just hate how thinks he's all that when he sings... case in point:

ugh!

and the winner was...

Thanks for the help! So this is what I finally went with... the navy jacket and I added a gray sweater since I can't seem to go anywhere with less than 3 layers. (It's sad but true!)

Overall, it went over quite well... tho my co-workers stuck to basics (boring!). ince many of other attendees got all dressed up I didn't feel too out of place. And I must say, there were a number of bow ties there that night.... but mine was the biggest.
